In the last blog post from our cosmetic dentist in Sarasota, we covered four procedures that can transform a dull, crooked smile into one that you’re proud of. Today, we’ll cover some additional procedures that will make you feel like smiling. Let your smile shine when you try one or more of these cosmetic dentistry options.

1. Advanced Ceramic Veneers

  • Do you have deep discoloration on your front teeth, and no whitening products seem to help?
  • Do you have misshapen teeth or unsightly gaps in your smile?
  • Do you have teeth that are pitted, mottled, or otherwise unsightly?
  • Do you have teeth that are too short?
  • Have your gums receded to the point where the base of each tooth looks unattractive?
  • Do you have a tooth that’s chipped or broken?

If any of these conditions apply to you, you might be a good candidate for ceramic veneers. This technology has advanced a lot in recent years. Advanced ceramic veneers are made of thin porcelain and shaped to look like the front of a tooth. Your dentist bonds the veneer to the tooth, and it covers any defects. Typically, you’ll have multiple veneers applied at the same time so that they all look uniform. Veneers are custom-shaped for each person and look stunningly natural, even providing the translucent look of natural teeth.

2. White bonded fillings

If you get a cavity in one of your front teeth, or even one that’s midway-back in your mouth but still visible when you smile, you probably don’t want a silver-colored filling to correct that cavity. Fortunately, silver (amalgam) fillings are no longer the only option for patients. If you want to retain your beautiful smile, ask your dentist about the possibility of getting white fillings instead. These fillings are made of a composite material that is bonded to your teeth. It gets the job done and no one would ever know you had a cavity. White composite fillings are long-lasting, safe, and great-looking!

3. Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped “caps” that can be adhered to your tooth to repair a cracked or chipped tooth or to repair a tooth that doesn’t have much material or substance left. Dental bridges are tooth-shaped pieces that adhere to the adjacent teeth and fill in a gap where there is a missing tooth. Both are standard options that dentists use to ensure that you have a great-looking tooth. Be aware that in order to install a crown, the dentist must file down the tooth to a small “nub” shaped sort of like a pencil eraser, so it is an irreversible procedure.

4. Gum Reshaping

While many people are familiar with more common cosmetic dentistry options like fillings and crowns, fewer people have heard of gum reshaping (or gum contouring, as it is sometimes called). Whether you have gums that have receded too much or gums that have grown down over your teeth, gum reshaping can give you the shapely, symmetrical gums that enhance the beauty of your smile.
